How to use the Open Graph Preview

  1. Enter the page URL (https:// is added if you leave it out) and click Preview link.
  2. Look at the six link cards to see what people will see in each app.
  3. Work through the tag checks: each one shows a pass, warning or error with the fix.
  4. Copy the recommended tags into your page's <head>, publish, then refresh the cached preview in the Facebook and LinkedIn debuggers.

Frequently asked questions

What size should an og:image be?

1200 × 630 pixels (a 1.91:1 shape) works on every major app. Facebook ignores images under 200 × 200 px, and most apps show only a small thumbnail when the image is under about 600 × 315 px.

Why doesn't WhatsApp show my image?

The most common reasons are an image over about 300 KB, a relative or http:// address, or a server that blocks bots. Compress the image to a JPG under 300 KB and use the full https:// address.

Do I need twitter: tags if I have Open Graph tags?

Mostly no: X reads og:title, og:description and og:image. You do need twitter:card set to summary_large_image if you want the big image card; without it X shows a small one.

I fixed my tags but Facebook still shows the old card. Why?

Apps cache link previews for days. Paste the URL into the Facebook Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn Post Inspector and ask them to scrape it again. Adding a harmless query like ?v=2 makes any app treat it as a new link.

How long should og:title and og:description be?

Keep og:title under about 60 characters and og:description under about 160. Longer text is cut off, and on phones often after the first line.

Why are my tags missing when the page clearly has them?

We read the HTML your server sends, without running JavaScript, which is exactly what Facebook, WhatsApp and LinkedIn do. If your tags are added by JavaScript in the browser, render them on the server.
