How to use the Tape Calculator
- Type an amount and press + (or Enter), −, × or ÷. Each entry is printed on the tape; click “Add a note” on a line to label it. New here? Press Load example to see a sample tape.
- Press Sub for a subtotal, +VAT to add tax, and Total to close the bill. Turn on Auto VAT under ⚙ Settings to add it to every total.
- Made a mistake? Click any amount on the tape to change it, or delete the line. Undo brings back the last change.
- Save the tape as an image to share on WhatsApp or email, download it as CSV for Excel, copy it as text, or print it.
- Drag the calculator or the tape to the other side (or press ⇄) to arrange them the way you like.
Frequently asked questions
What is a tape calculator?
A tape calculator, also called an adding machine or printing calculator, prints every number and operation on a paper roll so you can check the whole calculation. This online version keeps the tape on screen, and you can edit any line afterwards, which a paper roll can't do.
How do subtotals, totals and the grand total work?
Sub shows the running total without ending the bill. Total ends the bill, prints it with a double line, starts the next one from zero and adds it to the grand total at the bottom of the tape. Both are marked with = on the tape, and VAT and percentage lines show how they were worked out, for example 15% of 1,960.00.
How do I add or remove VAT?
Set the VAT rate (15% by default) under ⚙ Settings and press +VAT to add it to the running total, or −VAT to take out VAT that is already included in a price. With Auto VAT switched on, every Total adds the VAT line for you if the bill doesn't have one yet.
Can I save or share the tape?
Yes. Save image creates a clean PNG with your title, the date, every line and the grand total, ready for WhatsApp or email. Use + Add title above the tape to name it. You can also download a CSV for Excel or Google Sheets, copy the tape as text, or print it.
Is my tape saved, and is it private?
The tape is saved only in this browser on this device, so it's still there when you come back. When you clear a tape, it's kept under Recent tapes (the clock button), up to the last 20, so you can open it again. Nothing is sent to a server, and clearing your browser data removes it.
Does it support lakh and crore number format?
Yes. Choose 12,34,567 (lakh) grouping for Bangladesh and India, or 1,234,567 for international format, and 0 to 4 decimal places.
