Frequently asked questions

Why not just open the CSV in Excel?

Excel guesses as it opens a CSV: it drops leading zeros from phone numbers and ZIP codes, turns long IDs into 1.23E+15, mangles accented text without a UTF-8 marker, and may put everything in one column. This converter keeps those values intact.

Can I combine several CSV files?

Yes. Choose several files at once and each becomes its own sheet, named after the file, in one workbook.

Which delimiters are supported?

Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe. The delimiter is detected from the first rows, and you can pick it yourself if the guess is wrong.

What encoding should my CSV use?

UTF-8 works best. Files that aren't valid UTF-8 are read as Windows-1252 (the encoding older Excel versions use), and a note tells you so you can check accented letters.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The CSV is read and the Excel file is built inside your browser, so nothing is sent to a server.
