Frequently asked questions
Does cropping reduce image quality?
Cropping only removes pixels from the edges; the remaining pixels are copied 1:1. Saving as PNG is fully lossless, while JPG and WebP re-compress at the quality you choose.
How do I crop to a square for Instagram?
Choose the 1:1 ratio, move the box over your subject and crop. For portrait posts use 4:5, and 9:16 for stories and Reels.
Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
Yes. Type the width and height (and X/Y position) in pixels. They refer to the original image, not the scaled preview. To make the result a specific size afterwards, use Resize Image.
Can I use it without a mouse?
Yes. Tab to the crop box and use the arrow keys to move it, Shift + arrows to resize it, and hold Alt for 1-pixel steps. On phones, drag with your finger.
What is the rule of thirds?
A composition guideline: placing the subject along the lines or intersections of a 3×3 grid usually looks more balanced than dead centre. The grid inside the crop box shows those lines.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The image is decoded and cropped by your browser and never leaves your device.
