Frequently asked questions
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default since iOS 11. It stores photos at about half the size of JPG, but many Windows apps, websites and older devices can't open it.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The HEIC decoder runs inside your browser, so your photos never leave your device — useful for private or personal pictures.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
At 90% quality or higher the difference is practically invisible. Choose PNG if you need a lossless copy, at the cost of much bigger files.
Why did one HEIC file give me several JPGs?
A HEIC file can hold more than one image, such as a burst or a sequence. With “Export every image” on, each one is saved as its own file.
How do I stop my iPhone saving HEIC photos?
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose “Most Compatible”. New photos are then saved as JPG; existing ones stay HEIC.
Is the photo's location and date kept?
No — the converted files don't include the original EXIF metadata such as GPS location, which is often what you want when sharing.
