Frequently asked questions

Should I use JPG, PNG or WebP?

JPG is best for photos where small size matters. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, ideal for logos, screenshots and graphics. WebP gives smaller files than both and supports transparency, but a few older apps can't open it.

What happens to transparent areas when converting PNG to JPG?

JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with the background colour you choose — white by default.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG stores the pixels losslessly from now on, but it can't restore detail JPG compression already removed, and the file usually gets bigger.

Can I convert HEIC iPhone photos here?

Use the HEIC to JPG converter for those — most browsers can't read HEIC directly, so it uses a dedicated decoder.

What about animated GIFs?

Only the first frame is converted, since JPG and PNG are still-image formats.

Are my images uploaded?

No, the conversion runs entirely in your browser and the files never leave your device.
