Frequently asked questions
Why does Instagram remove my line breaks?
Instagram, and some other apps, often collapse empty lines and trim spaces at the start of a line, especially after you edit a caption. A line that contains an invisible character isn't empty, so it's kept.
Which invisible character works best?
U+2800, the Braille Pattern Blank. It's a real printable character that just has no dots, so apps treat it like text. Zero-width spaces and direction marks are often stripped, and the Hangul filler is sometimes removed or flagged.
Will people see the invisible character?
No — it displays as blank space. It does count toward the character limit, and some screen readers announce it as "blank", so use it for spacing rather than decoration.
What are Instagram's character limits?
Captions can be up to 2,200 characters and bios up to 150. The counter here counts Unicode code points; emoji made of several code points can count as more than one.
Does it work for TikTok, Facebook and X?
Yes, the same trick works in most apps that collapse blank lines. X keeps line breaks on its own, so you usually don't need it there.
Can I center text in my bio?
Apps don't offer text alignment, but the Center option pads each line with figure spaces. Because app fonts are proportional, the result is close but not exact.
