Frequently asked questions
How does copy-and-paste strikethrough work?
The tool adds a combining character after each letter — U+0336 "combining long stroke overlay" — which is drawn on top of the letter before it. The line is part of the text, so it survives copy and paste.
Why are there small gaps in the line?
Each letter gets its own stroke, and some fonts draw them slightly shorter or longer than the letter. The long stroke usually joins up; the short stroke and slash styles are meant to look per-letter.
Can I use real strikethrough instead?
Where the app supports it, yes: Discord uses ~~two tildes~~ and WhatsApp uses ~one tilde~ on each side. Instagram and X have no strikethrough formatting, so the Unicode version is the way to go there.
Does strikethrough text work with emoji?
Emoji are left without a stroke so they don't break — only letters, numbers and spaces get the line.
How do I remove a strikethrough later?
Paste the text into Unstyle Text; it strips the stroke characters and keeps normal accents such as é.
